Doha, Qatar, March 22, 2010 - The World Congress of Muslim Philanthropist announces winners of first ever Muslim Philanthropy Awards today in Doha, Qatar.

 

In this year’s inaugural round, Her Royal Highness Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar and Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy from United Arab Emirates were presented with Muslim Philanthropy Awards  in personality and grantmaker categories respectively.

The award was received by HE Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, senior Board Member of the Emirates Foundation, who is Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

 

In his address, Sheikh Sultan commented: “Both Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates have a long standing philanthropic tradition based on the spiritual values of our religion. This tradition celebrates the importance of community co-operation and support."

 

“The Emirates Foundation, which celebrates its fifth anniversary in May, is a modern reflection of that tradition.  We are truly honoured that our work during this short period has merited tonight’s recognition.”

The award was presented by Amir Dossal, Executive Director of the UN Partnerships Office.
